The Department: The Department of Software Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in software engineering with current enrollment of 450 and 50 students, respectively. The undergraduate program has been accredited by ABET since 2001.
The College: The B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences is the largest of RITs nine colleges, and has an enrollment of over 3,000 undergraduate students and 800 graduate students. The college, with over 100 faculty members, is housed in a modern facility equipped with numerous teaching and research laboratories. The college is home to the departments of Computer Science, Computing Security, Information Sciences and Technologies, Software Engineering, the School of Interactive Games and Media and a college-wide Ph.D. program, providing many opportunities for cooperation and research collaboration within and beyond the college.
Detailed Job Description
Applications are invited for multiple full-time tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Software Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). RIT is committed to being a student-centered research university. As part of that commitment, Assistant Professors will be expected to teach two courses per year through year five, with tenure review in year six after which teaching load will be adjusted according to the intensity of the research load. RIT is also positioned to provide excellent competitive startup funding for PhD students, equipment, and travel in support of building an outstanding research program. The university provides support for gaining external funding, including several internal seed funding opportunities. Successful candidates will have the option of starting January 2020 or August 2020. Founded in 1996, the RIT Department of Software Engineering is the first department of its kind in the US. The department has 14 full-time faculty members, numerous Ph.D. students in SE, and multiple postdocs. The SE department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Software Engineering, as well as a new Masters in Data Science, with a current enrollment of approximately 500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The department is part of RIT's largest college, the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. In addition to Software Engineering, the college includes a college-wide PhD Program; the Department of Computer Science; the School of Interactive Games and Media; the School of Information; and the Department of Computing Security.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability for scholarly research as shown by a recent scholarly dissemination record relevant to the applicant's area of expertise, and/or experience developing research proposals. Scholarly dissemination includes peer-reviewed conferences and journals in well-known software engineering, data science or artificial intelligence research venues, or development of peer-reviewed software products or data sets.
Commitment and potential to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Potential to collaborate in research with colleagues within the department, college, university, and externally.
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
A PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related computing discipline, is required by the start date of the appointment.
