Job Description Summary: Incumbent's primary function is to service others by providing information to staff, students, vendors, and other outside parties. Service is delivered in person or by use of communication console operation located within the Public Safety Information Center or from receptionist area located in the East Academic Building. The employee will also be required to operate a variety of public safety and office equipment. Reports to the Working Supervisor.
The schedule will be evening hours, 4 pm - midnight, Monday - Friday.
Minimum Qualifications Basic interpersonal skills. Required to work modified hours and be readily adaptable to situational changes. Ability to use good judgment when dealing with the public, staff, and students and to adhere to all policies, procedures, and safety regulations of the University. Ability to provide general instructions and answer questions regarding University, Public Safety, and Residential Life issues. Ability to effectively evaluate and/or handle stressful and potentially critical incidents in a calm and professional manner. Knowledge of modern office and public safety equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to public safety and security, students, staff, and faculty.
Essential Duties Answers telephones in a professional manner; interviews persons seeking access as well as directions to various locations within the University community. Gives information in person or by telephone to students, staff, and the public applying knowledge of University procedures. Follows appropriate organizational authorization protocol in all communication within the University community alerting appropriate staff of important activity affecting the institution. Applies established policy and procedure for operating the communications console and information center under normal and emergency situations. Greets, screens visitors, confirms proper identification and authorization for entrance to restricted areas, provides appropriate response to, and/or transfer of telephone calls; takes appropriate messages. May be assigned permanently and/or temporarily to the receptionist area located on the first floor of the East Academic Building. Receives and resolves problems or complaints of visitors, callers, and/or community members; refers serious problems to immediate supervisor for resolution. Operates a variety of public safety and office equipment such as, computer, two-way radio, fax, etc. Presents a positive and professional image in the work environment. Maintains good rapport and working relationships with co-workers and community members. Maintains strict confidentiality and demonstrates ethical and moral standards commensurate with serving the public. Immediately enter lost or found property into the Public Safety report writing system. Release lost or found property to the rightful owner per departmental policy and procedures. Manufactures Webster University identification cards. Monitors weather radio. Working knowledge of access control system. Maintains radio dispatch log,
