Tenure-Track Faculty Positions The Department of Physics at Syracuse University is seeking applicants in the fields of Experimental Cellular Biophysics and of Advanced Imaging in Medical, Biological, or Soft Matter Physics. The two positions are tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor, and will start in fall 2020. The positions are part of an ambitious Invest Syracuse Cluster Hire Initiative in the broad area of bioinspired science and technology. As an integral part of this investment, Syracuse University is actively recruiting multiple candidates for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions for a cohesive research cluster in the focus areas of Multicellular Mechanics of Development and Disease and of Smart Materials. Faculty hired into these positions will build on our existing strengths in the focus areas and affiliate with a newly formed multidisciplinary BioInspired Syracuse Institute for Material and Living Systems that spans multiple departments in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. We are particularly interested in candidates working within the focused area of Multicellular Mechanics of Development and Disease and Smart Materials with initiative to enhance collaboration and promote world-class interdisciplinary research to quantitatively understand complex biological systems, and rationally design programmable smart materials to address grand challenges in health, medicine, and materials innovation. Applications are solicited for two broad research areas: experimental cellular biophysics, and innovative imaging technologies in medical, biological, or soft matter physics. Researchers with interests that align well with current expertise at Syracuse in active matter, phase transitions in biological materials, biophysics of cell signaling and ion channels, extreme mechanics, or programmable materials are particularly welcome. The appointments will begin the Fall of 2020. Responsibilities include: Establish a successful research program. Effective teaching and advising at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty service assignments, such as committee service.
