The University of Pittsburgh's Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is one of the leading gastrointestinal centers in the country. We are seeking a qualified laboratory specialist to work at the interface of cellular immunology and genomics research in a laboratory that aims to bridge the knowledge gap separating the incomplete understanding of inflammatory bowel disease pathogenesis and the development of therapies directed precisely at specific pathogenic cellular and molecular targets.
Laboratory activities include:
-Intake and processing of study subject biosamples
-Entry of biosample data, biosample meta-data, and data derived from biosamples in computer databases
-Isolation of cells from peripheral blood and colonoscopic mucosal biopsy samples and cell subpopulation separations using magnetic bead-based and/or flow cytometry techniques
-Analysis of cell subpopulations by flow cytometry
-Analysis of DNA sequence variants using genotyping and DNA sequencing
-Analysis of gene expression using techniques such as bulk and single cell RNA-seq, and qPCR
-Analysis of chromatin states using techniques such as the assay for transposase
-accessible chromatin with high-throughput sequencing -Coordination of laboratory projects with clinical research support staff within the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC
-Assisting the Senior Laboratory Specialist and PI with laboratory supply inventory and ordering, and with laboratory supply cost estimates for budgets -Participation in the interviewing, orientation, training and review of temporary, student or volunteer workers in the
Experience in cellular immunology and/or molecular biology laboratory work is required. Familiarity with flow cytometry and/or next generation sequencing library prep is desirable. Familiarity with the Microsoft Windows computer environment is necessary, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel is desirable. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
