The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics is seeking a Data Analyst to apply data-mining, statistical, and modeling techniques to provide to support expanding research and clinical projects in the area of pharmacogenomics and precision medicine. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Philip Empey in the Pharmacogenomics Center of Excellence and with teams in the Clinical Analytics at Clinical Analytics at UPMC.
The Data Analyst designs, analyzes, and presents analytical solutions of large healthcare datasets to multidisciplinary teams summarizing population characteristics and outcomes to support data-based decision making to advance research and patient care initiatives. Specifically, to create analytic data files by using programming techniques to extract and aggregate raw data, conduct statistical analyses, ensure reporting logic is accurate, and document programming and results.
The Clinical Data Analyst must ensure reporting logic is accurate and sound by comparing analytical output to data within the source systems, as well as through cross validation to base reports. Additional responsibilities include assisting with preparing methods and results sections of manuscripts and presentations, assisting with preparing preliminary data and methods sections of grant proposals, tracking of data assets, and helping to ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations for human subjects research.
The incumbent must demonstrate expertise in data management, SQL skills, and analytical, statistical or machine learning software packages (such as R, SQL Developer, SAS, or STATA). Experience with large health care or medication-related databases such as electronic health record or health systems data is highly desired. Candidate must be able to work independently and efficiently with a high level of scientific integrity and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills and is expected to regularly collaborate with team members and see projects through to completion.
A Masters degree in mathematics, analytics, statistics, information systems, economics/finance, , computer science, healthcare management, or a related field is required. 3+ years of experience in data analytics is preferred.
