About the Opportunity:
The College of Science (COS) Dean's Office is seeking to hire an individual as Laboratory Operations and Safety Specialist, reporting to the COS Director of Space Planning and Operations. This position will serve as the lead for a large portfolio of research and teaching science labs in COS and Bouve College. The specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving safety as well as maintaining day-to-day lab operations in both research and teaching labs. Under the supervision of the director, the specialist will be a key advisor in helping to design and build wet labs strategically in order to best accomplish short- and long-term needs
Responsibilities: The Lab Operations and Safety Specialist maintains a large and complex portfolio of wet labs which require positive collaboration with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and leadership. As such this position will be required to manage across various stakeholders and in many cases work with and through others in order to achieve all the position's roles and objectives. The ideal hire will be enthusiastic about science and safety culture and will devise creative ideas to support the enhancement of our environment, keeping safety perpetually in the conversation of our lab workers.
Both a bachelor's degree and at 2 - 5 years of experience working in academic research laboratory safety and/or operations are required. MS/PhD preferred, but not required with demonstrated knowledge of wet lab environments. Written and verbal communication skills are paramount, together with excellent computer skills including Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook). Strong organizational skills and a problem-solving mindset required. Ability to work well with many different people (students, staff, and faculty) and personalities.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of, and experience with, the culture of research and administrative systems of Northeastern University preferred.
