The Offices of Graduate and Part-time Enrollment Services develops and implements marketing, recruitment, and admission strategies in support of international, graduate, adult, online, and part-time student enrollment goals. The team develops strategic plans, conducts recruitment outreach, provides information and advising, and is responsible for the admissions and enrollment procedures and goals.
Detailed Job Description
The Admissions Counselor engages in student recruitment and outreach efforts designed to satisfy Institute graduate and international enrollment goals. This position conducts significant amounts of student recruitment and outreach work, providing superior counseling, advising and information services for prospective students both domestic and international. This position also works closely with Graduate Enrollment staff to facilitate decision processing and yield activities.
OUTREACH & RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES - Represent the University on- and off-campus to prospective students and other education professionals or organizations involved in the college recruitment and selection process. Attend recruitment activities based on office initiatives. Maximize enrollment interests as identified by established enrollment goals. Liaison with graduate academic department staff to connect prospective students with Directors, office staff and faculty members. Requires knowledge of all RIT graduate academic programs and services.
ADVISING AND COUNSELING - Counsel prospective applicants about the admission process and opportunities available at the University. Exercise professional judgment in advising students about potential for admission. One-on-one admission counseling to diverse populations is an important responsibility of this position. Admission counseling occurs primarily by email, phone calls, by in-person appointments, and other electronic means including various forms of social media. Understand and advise students on financial aid and immigration policies and procedure.
RECRUITMENT PROGRAM - Responsible and accountable for a caseload of graduate programs. Responsibility includes a significant contribution to the fulfillment of enrollment goals and carries quantitative analysis and accountability to meet or surpass established goals tied to prospective student outreach, application completion, decision processing and yield efforts. Major program areas include assignments in areas requiring exceptional knowledge of AALANA, STEM or international credential review.
COMMUNICATIONS - In consultation with department leadership, help to develop and manage ongoing strategic communications with prospective students, corporate and education partners, government and community agencies, and other influentials using print, e-mail, Web, and other forms of media. Assist in the development and delivery of off- and on-campus events, online presentations and events, and campus visits and programs.
ADMISSION DECISION REVIEW AND VERIFICATION - Review and validate graduate department academic decisions taking into account professional standards and guidelines, RIT and academic department protocol and policy. Collaborate and work with graduate program directors, faculty, and staff to understand and achieve enrollment and diversity goals; understand graduate program requirements and goals to evaluate and consider applicant admissibility, academic program and applicant choices and options in order to appropriately advise graduate applicants. Understand, review, and verify academic credentials and educational background (international and US), standardized test performance, tests of English proficiency (English as a second language and award decisions. Verify and evaluate financial documents according to US immigration guidelines and policy.
COLLABORATION - Collaborate with appropriate RIT departments and external organizations as needed in order to facilitate admission and enrollment fulfillment for students, while meeting department and college enrollment goals.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Maintain an active role in professional development as a means for remaining current and aware in the profession of higher education. Regularly review professional journals and periodicals, active participation in national and international professional organizations, and actively pursue RIT product knowledge to promote graduate programs to the external market.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1 year of experience (or equivalent) in recruitment, marketing, or admissions preferably in higher education
