Reporting to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the Behavioral Health Consultant's (BHC'S) primary role will be to provide behavioral health services embedded in a primary care setting, RIT's Student Health Center (SHC). The BHC will serve as the behavioral health specialist within the SHC, overseeing mental health screening, educational/training initiatives, facilitating connection to services at Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS), providing crisis intervention services, and providing consultation for staff on addressing behavioral health concerns that arise for students in the primary care context and directly to students who present for appointments at the SHC. The BHC will carry a small caseload of ongoing clients and will be required to work at least one evening a week, as needed. The successful candidate will value a multifaceted approach involving strongly linked clinical and training efforts, consultation with the campus, mental health prevention/early intervention, multicultural values/awareness and collaborative campus connections. Detailed Job Description
This is a permanent 10 month position.
Provide behavioral health consultation services within RIT's Student Health Center (SHC). Consultation services serve both a culturally diverse undergraduate and graduate student population. Consultation may be directly with the students or indirectly developing care plans with SHC staff. Consultation services include: crisis intervention services for psychiatric emergencies that happen with SHC, consultation for staff addressing behavioral health concerns that arise for students in the primary care context and directly to students who present for appointments at the SHC.
Implement and facilitate mental health screening within the SHC and education/training initiatives for both students and staff.
Provide individual and group therapy services for Counseling and Psychological Services to a culturally diverse undergraduate and graduate student population that includes intake evaluations, mental health interventions, treatment follow-up, crisis intervention, and appropriate referrals.
Complete and maintain clinical documentation in a thorough and timely manner.
Develop and deliver mental health outreach and education programming to various campus partners, informed by clinical practice.
Support the growing training program through supervision, design/delivery of trainings,
Engage in campus committees and working groups as needed, along with seeking professional development opportunities.
Required Minimum Qualifications
A masters degree in mental health counseling or social work, or PhD/PsyD in Clinical/Counseling Psychology is required.
Clinical licensure in New York or license eligible as a Mental Health Counselor, Social Worker, or Psychologist; license is expected to be complete within one year.
A minimum of three years clinical experience in a diverse clinical setting.
Experience providing consultation services, short-term individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and case management and consultation services with a range of clinical issues and psychopathology.
Experience utilizing assessment/screening measures to inform diagnosis/treatment planning.
Training and experience with clients who present with complex and severe psychopathology and experience providing treatment and consultation to this population.
Demonstrated ability to handle complex, rapidly changing clinical situations (e.g. crisis situations, severe psychopathology, suicide and violence risk assessment and intervention).
Understanding of the college-age normative development and its challenges and trajectories.
Demonstrated experience in providing culturally competent services to a diverse client population.
Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.
Understanding of, and compliance with, the ethical and legal issues involved in the provision of clinical services.
Although serving a hearing population, a willingness to become familiar with Deaf culture.
Ability to work evening hours.
5 or more years clinical experience in a diverse clinical setting.
Both clinical and outreach experience working within a collegiate mental health setting.
Experience providing behavioral health services within a primary care setting.
Experience in providing supervision to emerging mental health professionals.
Desirable skills include interest and experience in utilizing a brief therapy model, group therapy, expertise in multicultural counseling, crisis intervention, hospitalization experience and work with more complex cases.
Experience with gender identity and autism spectrum issues is preferred as well.
Previous experience using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Slack, and PyraMed.
