The Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center (MHWFAC) (https://medicine.umich.edu/dept/food-allergy-center) seeks candidates with a M. S. degree in molecular biology and immunology with 5+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, viral vector expression systems, Lentivirus/ Retrovirus preparations and mammalian cell transduction methods and conditions. The primarily role for this position is to establish and maintain accurate inventory of parent cell lines and lentivirus/retrovirus transduced hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cell lines. The position would initially be for a 2-year period.
Daily culturing and maintenance of a variety of parental, immortalized mammalian cell lines.
Practice sterile tissue culture technique to ensure that cells are free of mycoplasma and other forms of contamination
New cell line generation. This will include usage of viral vector expression systems, Lentivirus/ Retrovirus preparations, • performing transductions, screening for single cell clones • Expansion of identified clones for analysis and screening • Freezing clones for storage.
Maintain an accurate hard copy and electronic laboratory documentation in appropriate systems (e.g. notebooks)
Follow established protocols for all practices including the culturing of cell lines, cell transduction preparation, and documentation.
Continuously seek, champion, and evaluate techniques and technological opportunities that will improve quality, efficiency, or scalability of cell culture
Conduct periodic cleaning and decontamination of Tissue Culture lab and quarterly cleaning of biosafety cabinets
Freezing of cell lines for storage, maintaining a local frozen cell bank to ensure vials are available at all times for major parental strains.
Establish and maintain an accurate inventory of cell lines.
M. S. degree in molecular biology and Immunology
5+ years of directly related laboratory experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, viral vector expression systems, Lentivirus/ Retrovirus preparations and mammalian cell transduction methods and conditions.
Working knowledge of principles of molecular biology, microbiology and immunology
Knowledge of lentiviral vectors, generation of lentivirus, and transduction of mammalian cells.
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision or collaboratively as part of a team on larger projects
Ability to communicate clearly the results of his/her experiments to other team members
Hands-on Cell Culture experience
Exceptional work ethic in a highly competitive environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills analytical and communication skills are required for the position.
Attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
Hands-on skills and experience in biochemical and molecular techniques including isolation of primary cells, quantification of mRNA (qPCR). cloning, and protein expression, biochemical and cellular screening assays
Experience in generation of intestinal organoids
