Under supervision, the Medical Assistant will assist the clinical staff at the UCSD Outpatient Psychiatric Service-Hillcrest to enhance the quality and effectiveness of care provided. Duties and responsibilities include greeting and checking in new and ongoing patients for outpatient appointments, answering phones and scheduling patients, triaging requests of patients and medical staff and other behavioral health professionals. Duties also include faxing, scanning, distribution of medication refills and medical record documentation.
The incumbent will also report to staff the physical and mental condition of the patient and changes in his/her condition and enter the information into the medical record. The incumbent may also record height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and basal metabolic index, and track such measurements on a flow sheet. The incumbent will administer injectable and other medications according to Medical Group policy and under the direction of the psychiatrist; assure that supplies are ordered and maintained according to Medical Group policies and procedures.
Maintain sterilization or disinfection of instruments, maintain equipment in good working order ensuring all medical equipment are up-to-date and in accordance with manufacturers' and Health Sciences guidelines. Care will be provided according to HIPAA standards and in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner, sensitive to the patient's cultural, religious and/or age-specific needs. May perform other related duties as assigned.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in six months of hire date.
Knowledge of medical terminology, on-line scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize demands and work in a team environment.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Familiarity working with Psychiatric populations.
Ambulatory Care experience.
Primary Care experience.
Knowledge of PCIS, IDX, and EPIC computer systems.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
