We have two Postdoctoral Fellow positions available immediately under the direction of Dr. Yibin Deng in the Laboratory of Cell Death and Cancer Genetics at The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota.
About the Lab My laboratory focuses on studying whether and how the genetic changes identified in cancer patients contribute to tumor initiation, progression and metastasis using genetic engineered mouse models; discovering novel small molecular compounds that selectively target human cancer cells while sparing normal cells; and mechanism-based repurposing drugs for cancer prevention and treatment. We have been utilizing multiple approaches including genome editing technology (CRISPR-Cas9), X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM to functionally and structurally understand how oncogenes-driven cancer cell metabolism are selectively activated in situ in tumorigenesis. We have established a strong collaborative team that brings together expertise from the areas of cancer biology, medicinal chemistry, structural biology, pathology, and preclinical genetic mouse models to practical therapeutic studies aiming to identify the Achilles’ heel of cancers that can serve as a means to selectively and effectively kill tumor cells. Our scientific findings/discoveries have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as PNAS, Genes & Dev, EMBO J, Cell, Nature, Nature Reviews Cancer, Cell Reports, EBioMedicine, Nature Columniations and Nature Cell Biology.
Requirements We are looking for enthusiastic, highly self-motivated M.D. and/or Ph.D. candidates with strong laboratory skills in molecular biology, cell biology and/or biochemistry. Those with a strong background in cancer biology are highly encouraged to apply.
