An NIH funded position is available to investigate fundamental questions in neuroscience using the Drosophila genetic model system. Our laboratory investigates:
i) the means by which mitochondria support neurotransmission, contribute to synaptic plasticity and become involved in neuropathologies, and, ii) the influence of pH homeostasis on neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity and neurological conditions.
The ideal candidate has recently obtained a PhD within the biological sciences, preferably with strengths in genomics or bioinformatics, and with interests in the neurosciences and the genetic basis of disease. Within our laboratory the candidate with have the opportunity to build proficiency in biophysical approaches to neurophysiology including high-speed fluorescence imaging, electrophysiology and electron microscopy.
Our laboratory is well equipped and highly interactive. It is part of the FAU Brain Institute www.ibrain.fau.edu and Jupiter Life Sciences Initiativewww.fau.edu/jlsi/ and located in Jupiter on the John D. MacArthur campus of Florida Atlantic University adjacent to the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and The Scripps Research Institute. With a tropical climate, Jupiter has been ranked as one of the Happiest Seaside Towns in America by Coastal Living.
