The position is for a Research III Lab Technician. The employee will assist the Primary Investigator in coordinating research studies and laboratory functions. The employee will develop and directly train and supervise students, research fellows, and other technicians in complex laboratory techniques.
These techniques will include, but not be limited to, sterile cell culture, molecular biology procedures (e.g. Western blotting, PCR, etc), and immunological assays (mixed leukocyte assay, flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISPOT). Duties will include coordinating data collection for several projects, troubleshooting problems and finding/suggesting solutions. The incumbent will provide technical support for large animal procedures performed by the Starzl Transplantation Institute in pre-clinical research. The support will include post-operative animal care and drug therapy. The employee will be expected to coordinate data analysis and contribute to manuscript/grant preparation and technical protocol writing.
T hey will work with the PI to create and maintain a laboratory budget and ensure compliance with intramural and extramural regulations. The employee will communicate with outside collaborators and commercial vendors and interact with university officials in making sure the laboratory is following appropriate guidelines and keeping current with inspections. The individual must be able to manage multiple projects, as well as help other team members coordinate and complete their studies. In addition, the employee may be responsible for maintaining shared STI equipment and training other STI personnel on the use of this equipment.
This position requires the incumbent to be highly motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and be able to work independently. An individual with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a molecular biology or immunology laboratory is required.
