A Ultrasound Technician at the University of Pennsylvania is a general term that is used to describe many potential roles, which require specific expertise. In this case, the ultrasound technician will be a Cardiac Sonographer at the Penn Center for Quantitative Echocardiography and responsible for performing highly specialized echocardiographic studies utilizing 2-D, 3-D, and Doppler techniques and offline quantitation of echocardiographic images according to American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and department guidelines, ensuring accurate, precise, and reproducible results. Sonographer will monitor testing equipment and environment to ensure quality of tests, employee and patient safety according to department and hospital guidelines and will compile records and maintain files according to procedure. Under supervision of the Medical Director, sonographer will conduct trainings for physicians and sonographers participating in clinical trials to ensure high quality and consistent image acquisition. Sonographer will engage in continuing education related to state-of-the-art ultrasound techniques for the assessment of cardiovascular physiology. The highly qualified sonographer will be responsible for the advanced quantification of echocardiographic and radiographic images and physiologic assessments. The sonographer will be responsible for the acquisition of highly detailed ultrasound images that require specialized training. Mentorship in academic clinical and translational cardiovascular ultrasound, including opportunities for authorship of scientific manuscripts and presentation of research results in scientific meetings, will be provided.
