Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, serve as the lead application architect for complex financial, human resource, and student information systems. As the lead application architect, the incumbent will lead the development of complex, highly reliable, and robust mission critical business information systems to meet the financial, personnel, and student information system needs of the dean's office, college, and campus. Provide leadership in the design and development of application standards used across all deans' office programming projects working with a team of several developers.
Using industry accepted design and modeling techniques serve as the principal technical architect working with programming project constituents to develop complete requirement specifications and application design specifications.
In conjunction with the Director of Information Technology, establish the infrastructure plan and processes needed to support an effective team-based software development organization. Design, administer and maintain a robust application development environment supporting the development process of a team of programmers.
Work independently and in teams of individuals with diverse technical and non-technical responsibilities and backgrounds, to develop programming solutions for the dean's office and college. Communicate effectively with a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences, including other IT professionals, university staff, faculty, and administrators.

Minimum Qualifications: -Experience in developing application to application communication interfaces (APIs) using web services and technologies such as JSON, XML, SOAP, and WSDL. -Experience in interfacing programmatically with a variety of enterprise authentication and authorization systems. -Knowledge of programming tools, technologies, methodologies, and resources. -Experience evaluating new and emerging technologies to advise and effect migration or transition of systems and applications from old to new software and hardware platforms. -Experience in the development of secure applications, including designing and implementing a secure architecture from the ground up using robust authentication, access control, encryption, and other technologies as appropriate to ensure the integrity and security of sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications: -Knowledge of UC Davis distributed authentication methods such as CAS, Kerberos, and Shibboleth, and current or upcoming enterprise authentication methods such as OAuth 2.0. -Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and improving complex web applications suitable for the business needs of a large research university. -Knowledge of legal issues and University policies associated with the use of information technology, electronic communications, data stewardship (including privacy and security, and the use of copyrighted material, software licensing, development, and distribution. -Experience conducting group training sessions including development of training material and presenting it in front of a group. -Experience with confidential and sensitive personnel, academic, financial, and student data. -DaFIS, PPS, PPS-DS, Banner experience. -Experience with known security vulnerabilities and auditing of application code. -Experience leading a team of developers using agile programming methods, team-based software development including distributed version control systems and team project tracking, test-driven development, continuous integration, design patterns, and code refactoring. -Knowledge of multiple operating system environments, including Windows, MacOS, and Unix (Linux, BSD).
