Job Summary: Under general supervision, provide day-to-day support to the departments of Plant Pathology and Entomology and Nematology Advising team. Undergraduate majors include: Animal Biology; Entomology; Global Disease Biology; Science and Society Program which includes the Career Discovery Group and the Contemporary Leadership Minor; and Research Scholars Program in Insect Biology Program. With assistance from the master advisor, act as the lead staff advisor for the undergraduate Entomology program. Conduct course management, including all aspects of instructional support including course scheduling, enrollment management, evaluations, DESII, grading and classroom logistics. Manage outreach and events. Provide backup support to the Graduate Academic Program Coordinator. Other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands: Sit for extended periods of time at a computer.
Lift/maneuver boxes of paper and files weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
Work Environment: Work in a fast paced environment with constant interruptions, various deadlines and competing priorities with attention to details.

Minimum Qualifications: Working knowledge of academic courses/programs/curriculum, major and college requirements, petitions and certifications in a University setting.
Experience identifying and determining appropriate level of advising or referral services for individual students, providing immediate crisis counseling, triage, and referrals to students in academic, financial or personal difficulty. Knowledge of a wide range of campus student services and resources.
Analytical and problem solving skills to evaluate and interpret complex policies, procedures, and reference materials; to recommend solutions on a variety of issues; and to analyze new and existing policies to develop procedures to meet requirements.
Knowledge of degree requirement to assist students with academic planning.
Experience working with students in a degree-oriented program at the university/college level including knowledge and understanding of academic needs and concerns of students, and assessing progress toward degree.
Organizational, time-management, and information management skills to manage multiple priorities and to meet deadlines with attention to accuracy and detail.
Experience developing informational materials, creating reports, and answering correspondence with attention to grammar, proofreading and spelling.
Experience using computer systems to write, edit, merge and format letters, mailing labels, and reports; to analyze and manage data; and for internet research, email and calendaring.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of policies, procedures and applicable laws relating to the maintenance of confidential student records and related sensitive information.
Experience using University related systems including BANNER, DESII, ICMS, and SIS.
Knowledge of campus, department and/or college requirements, resources, policies and procedures to interpret complex policies.
Experience using problem solving, critical thinking and judgment to identify problem areas that need improvement; develop creative solutions, and effective plans for resolution and implementation.
Organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload to meet critical deadlines.
Communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain ongoing professional relationships with a diverse constituency including faculty, staff, students, parents, and industry.
Student advising and counseling experience in a university setting including knowledge of student services and resources available.
Knowledge of State and Federal Laws governing confidentiality of student records and of UC policies regarding privacy of inform.
