Department: SCHOOL OF EDUCATION - 040120 Department Description: The School of Education was established in 2002, building on an 85-year tradition at UC Davis of working to strengthen public education. The School offers preparation for the California teaching credential, master's and doctoral-level programs for educational researchers and practitioners, and professional development for educators throughout Northern California. The School has approximately 50 senate and clinical faculty and 80 staff. The School's total budget is over $30 million, and is comprised of state general funds, tuition and self-supporting revenue.
The School also supports a dynamic and diverse program of research. Faculty members and graduate students conduct research in numerous research areas as diverse as academic language and literacy, college access and persistence, citizen science, autism and education, and much more. In addition, the School has various research centers including the Center for Community and Citizen Science, Transformative Justice in Education, Wheelhouse: The Center for Community College Leadership and Research, California Education Lab, Center for Shakespeare in Diverse Classrooms, Center for Applied Policy in Education, Sacramento Area Science Project Center and REEd (Resourcing Excellence in Education).
The Sacramento Area Science Project (SASP) is a joint endeavor with California State University, Sacramento and serves as a site of the California Science Project. In addition to ongoing contract work and engagement with regional K-12 science educators, SASP also pursues and administers grant related projects funded by federal, state and private entities.

Job Summary: Under the general direction of the PI/faculty director of the Sacramento Area Science Project, the Research Projects Director is responsible for the management of multiple strategic partnerships and research initiatives funded through large federal, state and private education grants. Oversees budgeting practices and systems in support of the center's financial infrastructure. Provides leadership oversight of collaborative, multi-year, multi-million dollar research projects in science education that investigate student and teacher learning as well as the design and enactment of K-12 curricular materials and professional development systems. Coordinates, negotiates and oversees delivery of contracts for teacher professional development and other consultation services to regional schools, districts and County Offices of Education. Uses advanced subject matter and technical expertise to manage the operating infrastructure to support the ongoing work and deliverables of the Sacramento Area Science Project site at UC Davis.
Physical Demands: Work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time
Ability to lift and maneuver boxes of paper and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: Work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet operational needs.
Occasional travel may be necessary to accomplish the principal responsibilities of the position
Provide own transportation to off-site meetings and events.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Education or related field or equivalent professional experience
Comprehensive knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards and the instructional and curriculum changes that must be in place to support them
Extensive experience in K-12 school settings and science education professional development activities
Experience with grant development, preparation, editing and publication
Experience with educational research activities and long-term monitoring of collaborative research projects
Demonstrated managerial skills to provide leadership within a complex organization in the areas of operations, fiscal management and budgeting, personnel supervision, program development and implementation, strategic development and planning
Experience working collaboratively with a broad, diverse spectrum of professionals concerned with public education, including teachers, principals, superintendents, curriculum and instruction personnel, elected and appointed officials, professional organization representatives, university faculty and administrators
Professional presentation skills to write for and speak to multiple audiences
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field
K-12 teaching certification and teaching experience
Comprehensive understanding of public school and school reform practice and policy in California and the nation, and of the multicultural context of California and its implications for education
