The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University seeks a talented, creative, and enthusiastic individual to contribute to the development of instrumentation platforms for automated animal behavior screening. Using the Xenopus frog tadpole model, the candidate will design, build, and test instrumentation to perform phenotypic screens and behavioral analysis. This role is part of a collaborative team of academic and industrial engineers, biologists, and bioinformaticians focused on therapeutics discovery and development. The position will primarily involve mechanical systems design, basic electrical engineering, Arduino and Python programming, extensive instrumentation validation and testing, and assisting with behavioral/cognitive assays.
The candidate will contribute to internal reports, patent applications, Institute presentations, and Institute publications. He/she will also assist with maintenance and procurement of equipment and supplies relating to Xenopus husbandry, and experimentation. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an engineer to learn a broad spectrum of skills while pursuing challenging biological questions with clear commercialization potential.
This position is a term position funded through June 30, 2020 with the possibility of renewal. Offer contingent on successful completion of pre-placement medical evaluation.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Biological/Biomedical Engineering or related field. Minimum of 2 years' experience in a lab environment. Education may count toward years of experience.
Candidates with experience designing mechanical and/or electrical systems, will be stronglyvconsidered. Ability to work well independently toward time-sensitive milestones and tovcollaborate within a multidisciplinary group is essential. The candidate should be proficient withvpersonal computers and applicable software packages (SolidWorks, Microsoft Office) and Arduino, Python, or another programming language. Basic statistics and graphing software (e.g., Graphpad Prism) skills are a plus. Good written and oral communication skills are essential. The candidate should be highly motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and able to take initiative.
