Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Software Developer for the The Rutgers Infrastructure Monitoring and Evaluation (RIME) Group. This group has been developing expertise in the Bridge Management, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of bridges as well as the application of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) coupled with Information Technology (IT) for the past decades. This position is a highly qualified Software Developer to synthesize the results of advanced research projects conducted to date and to work towards extending these results to practical analysis and design procedures that can be adopted by the bridge owners and managers as part of their infrastructure management strategies.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Conducts advanced research throughout computational tools and resolving practical issues throughout forensic engineering.
Oversees simulation of complex and non-complex bridge structure using ABAQUS.
Provides development of desktop and mobile apps for research projects and maintenance of various existing apps developed by the RIME group.
Implements SHM strategies to different bridge networks.
Manages large-scale databases.
Coordinates project tasks with sponsors and colleagues for the deliverables including proposals, progress reports, final reports, etc.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similarly related field; or related combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of two (2) or more years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent documentation and communication skills, a strong team-oriented attitude, and self-motivation with the ability to establish work priorities.
Must have an experience in software development, and working knowledge of some of the major operating systems including MacOS, Windows, and Linux.
The candidate should lead the development of comprehensive web-based solutions for the RIME Group's activities ranging from research, education, outreach, and technology transfer, as well individual projects and related data, in compliance with our group's data management plan and federally required guidelines.
Background in multiple areas of research including big data, machine learning, traffic safety, transportation asset management
Strong skills in GIS applications in transportation including experience in using web-based mapping APIs, such as Google Maps or ArcGIS to help enhance the program to result in an object-oriented portable source code for programs to be used by investigators in the field of transportation engineering
Experience in coding using Visual Basic, C, C++, Python, Java, etc.
Knowledge in different relational (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL) and non-relational (Firebase, MongoDB) database platforms
Experience with database design, implementation and performance tuning
