Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V (RTS V) for its Genomics Center. Under the direction of the Director and Laboratory Supervisor, The RTS V will conduct specialized clinical genomic testing and research, while using judgment to adapt methods and techniques. Must also assist with maintaining laboratory, accessioning and other administrative responsibilities.
Carries out various technical operations relating to the clinical and research activities of the laboratory.
Follows all lab policies and assists with the establishment of performance standards, proficiency testing, quality control and procedures associated with the maintenance of the clinical laboratory licenses.
Assists with the instruction and training of students in various techniques and procedures and other Clinical Testing protocols.
Operates and maintains instrumentation as well as maintaining inventory stock.
Performs various assays independently with responsibility for accurate methodology and proper instrumentation usage. Provides appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
Compiles and presents data in an organized and professional manner with appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science, Master’s preferred, plus two (2) years related research experience
Two years of research experience in a clinical lab
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands – Light lifting. Must be able to sit at a microscope for extended periods of time, work in dark-rooms, as well as stand for long periods of time while doing bench-top work. Must be able to differentiate colors.
