Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Waksman Institute. Waksman Institute is home to over 15 faculty members who use a broad range of approaches and experimental systems in numerous well-funded research programs.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Under the immediate guidance and direction of a senior technician or other supervisor, provides routine technical support relative to scientific research work or projects of a laboratory and/or teaching program.
Collects and completes basic preparation of samples and specimens.
Performs standard and repetitive physical, chemical, and biological tests on materials, substances, and/or living subjects.
Prepares media, substances, solutions, and reagents and performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent with coursework completed in the relevant science area(s) and one year of research study experience.
An equivalent amount of college-level study in an appropriate science curriculum may be substituted for the experience.
Requires a practical understanding and a working knowledge of basic scientific techniques, and the ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Will be required to participate in required occupational health and safety programs.
May require a valid driver’s license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Regular workweek may include evening and/or weekend work.
Experience and working knowledge of microbial cultures and/or cell cultures
Experience in DSP (downstream process) and/or bio-manufacturing
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Able to stand, lift, bend.
Able to occasionally lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Able to reach and grasp with arms and hands.
Work involves possible exposure to malodorous vapors and toxic chemicals.
Long periods of standing and/or sitting.
