Department: Product Control Product controllers are an independent control function responsible for the accuracy and integrity of Line of Business (LOB) books and records. The key control functions and responsibilities of a controller in Securities Services includes monthly P&L substantiation, assisting with the month-end close process in partnership with Financial Control and Legal Entity Controllers as well as ensuring the integrity of the US GAAP General Ledger, LOB submissions and representations in external Regulatory filings including 10Q/10K, and Risk Weighted Asset (RWA) policy application and calculation. Additionally, the product control function works with the business to help optimize RWA and Capital, Balance sheet usage, CIB Treasury funding and the impact of Regulatory reform. Product controllers in the CIB are aligned to LOB's and report to their respective LOB Global Controller. The team's key interactions are with Product (front office), Sales & Marketing, Business Managers, Financial Control, Business Control Officers, Legal Entity Control, Market Risk, Operations and Technology. Role Description The successful candidate will be part of the team in London where the team is responsible for providing business advisory and accounting support, control oversight and integrity of the product revenue and end-to-end control. The team plays an instrumental role in creating the budget, forward-looking forecasts and analysis of the financial results to the business as well as senior CIB stakeholders. The candidate will serve as a key partner to the global and local business head as well as other functional teams. The role is suitable for a candidate with a track record of insightful analysis and control focus, who is keen to learn and operate in a constantly improving environment, and looking to take on leadership and management responsibilities.
Examples of responsibilities:
P&L explain and reporting
Weekly P&L publish: include key drivers and trending analysis; MoM / WoW / Actual vs plan variance explain; client mix and macro-economic outlook
Monthly GL close P&L publish: breaks reconciliation, P&L variance explain and detailed commentary
Conduct monthly business review meeting for Global and regional P&L signoff
Ensure the accuracy of quarterly earnings submissions and provide thoughtful analyses for senior management review
Perform ad-hoc forecast and profitability scenarios analysis (for example, anticipating a Fed rate change, client re-pricing or re-structuring) to help business understand impact from changing market environment and to ensure our forecast is aligned to latest market information
Partner with business, technology and QR to drive the delivery of strategic initiatives (P&L aggregator, analytics tools)
Ownership for NBIA process from a Finance perspective
Work closely with business heads to develop adequate financial reporting and key performance indicator as business expands and grows
Identify process enhancement opportunities and take ownership of resolution plans
Scope to participate and contribute to team wide change agenda
Stakeholders and Influencing
Face off to multiple stakeholders across a variety of Securities Services business as well as Treasury Services, JPM Treasury, Technology and QR
Regular opportunity to present to immediate as well as wider team, developing communication, influencing and presentation skills
Qualificationsand Experience Required:
Degree qualified - ideally a numerate degree
Enthusiastic and a self-starter, ale to work independently with direction
Good financial product knowledge
Ability to work effectively, meet challenging deadlines and to work under pressure
Analytical and quantitative aptitude - ability to identify and solve problems independently
Good verbal and written communication skills
Strong technical skills (Advanced Excel)
Proactive and willing to accept responsibility
