General Description: Biostatistician position candidate will devote effort to two primary assignments, with roughly equal allocation: 1) statistical consultation within the Johns Hopkins Biostatistics Center and 2) data management and basic analysis of a large national study of genetic predisposition and environmental exposure to the development of the disease.
The candidate will provide biostatistical consultations to researchers at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions (JHMI) and external organizations. These consultations range from short in-person sessions to longer-term projects and focus on sample size/statistical power calculations, data analysis, assistance with interpretation of results, manuscript- and report writing. The candidate is expected to work as part of a team of data managers and biostatisticians and under the supervision of a senior biostatistician consultant. Incorporation of this role is expected to enhance the candidate experience through regular interaction with a community of consultative statisticians and the opportunity for exposure to a broad range of projects.
In the second project, the candidate will work under the direction of a Biostatistics Department faculty member to provide access to a large national database, manage the pipeline for data requests and sharing of analytic datasets. This will include understanding the data structure, data cleaning and checking, simple data analytic summaries and development of analytic datasets with detailed data documentation. A component of the project will involve managing, cleaning and carrying out analysis of large scale genome-wide association studies.
Master's degree in biostatistics or statistics
Experience with genetic epidemiology, including genome-wide association studies (GWAS) is preferred
Expertise with standard statistical packages, such as R, STATA and SAS and some experience with specialized software for genetic data analysis such as PLINK will be desired
Two or more years of experience in applied statistical analyses of prospective and retrospective data, including longitudinal, multi-level/hierarchical data, survival analysis, methods for classification and prediction and approaches to missing data.
