CUHCC’s mission is transforming care and education to advance health equity. The clinic is known for providing high quality care to diverse patients and is moving forward in improving timely access to care for patients. This position will focus on cash application. This position will also work as a resource for patients, providers, interpreters and clinic staff within the billing department for medical, dental and mental health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Position overview and functions may change as position develops
1) Cash Applications: (70%) a) Responsible for manual application and electronic transactions of all payments and denials received from insurance and patient b) Reconciliation of daily lockbox and daily payments from the clinic c) Read and understand Explanation of Benefits (EOB) in order to report payment and denial trends to Team Lead d) Accurately transfer copays, coinsurance, deductibles and non-covered services to patient or secondary insurance e) Perform secondary billing when no auto-crossover has occurred per the EOB f) Cross-train with Team Lead on processing of biweekly Minnesota Department of Human Services remittance advice g) Work with insurance on missing or incomplete imported files by contacting insurance via phone, emails and mails. h) Work with Supervisor to identify areas for improvement such as implementing new workflow strategies and productivity Other job duties: (20%) a) Review work lists created from reconciling Minnesota Department of Human Services remittance advice. b) Responsible for tracking, image scanning and storage of all correspondence received through lockbox or imported files or internally. c) Along with Team Lead, create/improve reconciliation process for all EOBs received d) Create weekly batches for clinic and billing e) Review and respond to all correspondence received by mail f) Attend meetings with billing staff, Team Lead and Manager g) Cash Applications Specialist will be in the billing team phone queue h) Provide patients, providers and clinic staff with explanation of account balances, payment history and insurance coverage as related to medical, dental and mental health departments i) This position will need to understand the process of working at the clinic in the billing role as backup. Billing role at the clinic is responsible for professionalism and courteousness to patients and clinic staff. Accepting payment, waiver review, upfront payment, questions on account. j) Responsible to manage hours, vacation and sick time k) Responsible to keep updated with changes or processes and work with Team Lead as needed l) Responsible on keeping manuals updated on position responsibilities and duties m) Cross-train with Credit Refund Specialist as backup for Credit Refund Department as needed n) Cross-train with cash drawer balancing as backup

Salary Rage: $16.18-27.21 per hour

Required Qualifications: 1. High school diploma/GED and four years of general accounts transaction experience. Training may be substituted for some of the years of experience. 2. Experience in a billing office 3. Demonstrated/documented understanding of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) required as cash applications serves as a primary resource in reporting trends or incorrect reimbursement 4. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, organize tasks and prioritize 5. Demonstrated high-level oral and written communications skills to work with patients, staff, providers, and insurance companies 6. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills 7. Demonstrated ability to work with patients and staff from diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds 8. Demonstrated capacity to work on a team and make positive contributions to the team 9. Demonstrated strong attention to detail 10. Willingness to perform to company standards of compliance with policies and procedures 11. Demonstrated/documented knowledge of insurance verification, coordination of benefits, billing practices and insurance collections
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Post-secondary education credits in business or healthcare 2. Fluency in one of CUHCC’s predominant patient languages (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Lao, Hmong) 3. Knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Care Center (FQHC) **A negative TB test is required for this position.
