Fabricates, maintains, repairs and participates in the modification of specialized mechanical/plumbing equipment and related devices
Assists in developing machinery and equipment using mechanical/plumbing theory and principles
Develops, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical/plumbing components or assemblies for machinery, equipment and instruments
Assists in the repair, fabrication or modification of plumbing systems
Modifies equipment to conform to specifications and/or plumbing/mechanical code requirements under director of Master Plumber
Operates machine shop equipment and power tools
Repairs and maintains plumbing/mechanical equipment under the direction of a Master Plumber
Ability to work with export controlled technologies
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Associate's degree in trade or equivalent combination of related technical training and experience. Two years' experience as a Research Trades Assistant I or equivalent trades experience in a skilled trades area specific to the job duties to be performed. May require working in and around x-ray producing apparatus, radioactive materials, cryogenic liquids and/or other potentially hazardous materials. Occasional to frequent lifting of 26 pounds and over is required.
Prefers 2-4 years plumbing apprentice.
