Highly motivated individual sought for a Research Technician Intermediate in a basic/translational research laboratory in the Department of Surgery. The candidate will work closely with the Senior Technician who manages all animal activities related to the laboratory's large animal surgery program.
Provide for daily and postop care of large animals, mainly swine. Identify signs of illness in large animals and respond accordingly. Monitor animals under anesthesia and recovery.
Clearly communicate all information related to animal care and animal monitoring to other scientists on the team.
Administrative duties: Maintain accurate logs for controlled substances, animal surgeries and animal health. Additional duties as assigned.
Train personnel in existing laboratory techniques and procedures, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operation limitation and outcomes
Maintain laboratory inventory and research equipment.
Assist with aseptic surgical procedures. Sets up materials and equipment for animal experiments. Sterilize equipment - Autoclave and ETO Gas. Helps clean up after experiments.
Research Lab Tech Intermediate:
•HS diploma or Assoc Degree and 1-3 years experience required. • Flexibility to work odd, late hours, and occasional weekend shifts • Excellent multitasking skills • Ability to communicate clearly to other team members • Proficiency is Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Powerpoint). • Familiarity with basic laboratory instrumentation and maintenance of laboratory equipment • Proficient record keeping • Exceptional work ethic
Research Lab Technician Associate (102945) Required Qualifications: • HS diploma or Assoc Degree and 0-1 year experience required. • Flexibility to work odd, late hours, and occasional weekend shifts • Excellent multitasking skills • Ability to communicate clearly to other team members
• Experience working with large animals and/or farm animals • Veterinary technician or similar degree and/or training • Familiarity with University research administration policies and procedures • One or more years’ experience as a full time research technician • Ability to train less-experienced students and technicians
This position may be under filled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
