The MITACs funded project is directed by Dr. Paul Fernyhough, St Boniface Hospital Research Centre, in collaboration with WinSanTor Inc, San Diego. The work is focused on identifying novel peptides derived from snake venom that exhibit nerve growth enhancing capability. In silico chemistry will design novel peptides for screening in adult neuron cultures. Subsequent studies will investigate mechanism of action via GPCR pathways. See Calcutt et al, 2017, J Clin Invest for background information.
Qualifications: Must hold a PhD in neurobiology or related field (e.g. cell biology, biology or pharmacology). Prior experience with signal transduction, cell culture, gene expression studies, genetic manipulation and/or fluorescence microscopy would be advantageous.
