ABOUT THE POSITION
OKSI is looking for an experienced and energetic Systems Engineer to join our Environmental Science team! The team works on researching and implementing solutions in environmental sensing such as greenhouse gas and pollution monitoring, bioenergy production, and diagnostics of next generation rocket engines.
Key responsibilities include:
Work with a group of scientists and engineers to develop cutting-edge laser absorption spectroscopy sensors for trace gas detection and isotope analysis
Participate in a wide range of activities:
Design and assemble sensor systems
Run tests, collect data, and analyze results
Troubleshoot any hardware and software issues related to optics, vacuum/gas-handling components, electronics, and data acquisition programs
Identify and develop refinements to sensor design and operation
Provide proper documentation on design architecture, implementation plan, testing criteria, test results, and routine project updates.

S. in Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Optical Engineering
Minimum 5 years of working experience in spectroscopy, optics, or systems engineering (or a combination of).
Proficient in one of more of the following computer programs: IDL, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Zemax.
Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn.
Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to meet deadlines on individual tasks.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities using effective organizational and time-management skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
The ideal candidate:
Has working knowledge of vacuum systems, electronics (board design, layout, etc.), laser, IR detectors, and Mid-IR spectroscopy.
Is good with hands and tools. Can solder.
Has prior experience producing reports and presentations, and is able to effectively interface with customers and collaborators.
You must have, or be eligible to obtain, a Department of Defense Secret clearance. You will be subject to government security investigations and must be able to access classified information. Inability to obtain a security clearance will result in you being ineligible for this position.
Occasionally required to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
