Position Details: The college is accepting applications to build a pool of instructors for possible future part-time assignments at all locations. The department chairperson or designee will review applications as vacancies become available.
Instructors may be assigned to any campus or authorized facility. Assignments may include days, evenings, or weekends.
Basic Function: Under direction, plan, organize and teach assigned courses in an instructional field or discipline in accordance with approved course outlines, education code requirements and faculty contract provisions; provide feedback and guidance to students and evaluate student performance; and perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: The transcripts you are attaching to provide evidence that you meet the minimum qualifications below must state the degree title, major, and date awarded.
Bachelors degree in teaching English as a second language (ESL), or teaching English to speakers of other languages.
OR masters of education in TESOL, Literacy and Culture (USD); or masters in Linguistics with a Specialization in TESOL/Applied Linguistics (SDSU), approved comparable degree titles at MiraCosta College.
OR bachelors degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.
OR bachelors degree with any of the majors specified above; and one year of experience teaching ESL in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor.
OR possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL.
OR the equivalent*.
AND have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
