The Research Assistant II will be responsible for:
Performing a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research, while under immediate supervision.
Assisting in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.
Developing protocols and performing experiments to test the efficacy of gene therapy in animal models of inherited cardiovascular disease.
Optimizing vector design and viral production workflow.
Producing AAV virus for cardiac gene therapy in small animal models.
Managing multiple pre-clinical disease mouse models including breeding, genotyping and phenotyping. Potential for involvement in pre-clinical large animal studies as well.
Routine molecular biology tasks including cloning and PCR.
Maintaining excellent records of results and methodologies as well assisting in compiling and analyzing data.
In order to qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, toxicology, pharmacology or a related field. A Master's degree is highly desired but not required.
At least 12 months of hands-on laboratory experience.
Intermediate laboratory skills including cell culture, molecular biology, microscopy, use of basic analytical equipment is required.
Knowledge and experience with animal husbandry for small laboratory animals is required. Expertise with pre-clinical disease models and target development is a plus.
Excellent inter-personal skills and the desire to learn new skills are a must.
