Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Child Health Institute at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Temporary Research Assistant will carry out basic immunology research using mouse models and human cell lines; the candidate will be expected to carry out multiple techniques such as flow cytometry, Western blots, and co-immuno-precipitation; and will be responsible for maintaining and genotyping a mouse colony. In addition to research, the candidate will help with tasks related to the daily running of the laboratory, maintain detailed records of procedures and experiments; will compile and present data through participation in weekly research meetings and group discussions; and will be expected to help prepare a manuscript for publication based on his/her results.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Prepares stock solutions and buffers.
Reviews relevant scientific literature; presents to lab group to foster discussion of relevant new experiments.
Assists in utilization of lab facilities equipment and instruments.
Assists with the instruction and training of students in laboratory techniques and procedures.
Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments; may be required to compile data and present results.
Work collaboratively and independently with laboratories and researchers within CHI and Rutgers.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Recent college graduate.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be familiar with basic molecular biology and cellular biology research procedures.
Must be familiar with flow cytometry and basic biochemistry techniques; must be able to handle mice.
Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Researcher must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Prior laboratory research experience.
