Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Technician, for the Guo Lab at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the conduct and execution of research experiments following the instructions given by a Principal Investigator in laboratory team. This will include supporting the research of Principal Investigators and senior members of the laboratory. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for attending laboratory conferences and for learning appropriate scientific methods and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists in packing, unpacking, storing and classification of lab supplies and specimens.
May give suitable instructions to Laboratory Assistants, Service Workers and other non-professional workers and monitors the performance of their work.
Performs standard laboratory procedures involved in making required tests and analyses.
Assists in preparing culture media, reagents, stains, and stock solutions
Assists with experimentation and research activities.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate Degree in a relevant science.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must successfully complete all required laboratory safety/shipping courses as required by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey policy.
Demonstrated ability to organize assigned laboratory work and develop effective work methods.
Demonstrates ability to follow laboratory safety policies and perform simple laboratory procedures.
Demonstrates ability to learn laboratory database for data entry work.
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
BS, BA or higher degree.
Biological Science degree.
Previous experience in laboratory techniques including molecular biology, cell biology and tissue culture experiments.
Occasional overtime is required.
