Whited Lab investigates limb regeneration capabilities in axolotl salamanders to provide information critical for designing efforts to stimulate regeneration in humans. We seek a highly responsible individual to join our team as a Research Assistant I. Working under PI's direction, this individual will maintain a breeding colony of aquatic salamanders for research purposes, by ensuring a stable, sanitized environment with quality food and water and husbandry practices . He or she will also be responsible for maintaining compliance records and monitoring the collection of daily health observations; scheduling, assisting and occasionally instructing undergraduate assistants; ordering laboratory supplies and maintaining spending records, and, most importantly, overseeing the health and well-being of the animals.
This is a grant-funded two-year term position with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the continued availability of funding
May be required to work with and handle lab-based animals May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment. May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials.

At least two years of college level course work in biology or related field.
At least one year of related work experience with aquatic animals (relevant course work may count towards experience). Demonstrated experience with the axolotls.
A successful candidate will have extremely strong communication skills. He or she will also have experience which demonstrates a high degree of organizational capabilities. The candidate needs to be adept at working with others towards a common goal, but must also have the ability to execute job responsibilities independently.
