Under the direct supervision of the Project Scientist, the incumbent (a) is assigned projects in the James lab and Insectary, (b) performs laboratory experimental work in mosquito biology (Anopheles stephensi and Anopheles gambiae) and practical parasitology, and (c) undertakes research projects from supervisors and academic research staff, follows IACUC approved protocols pertaining to the James laboratory experimental procedures. The incumbent assists the Project Scientist in laboratory/insectary experiments and manuscript preparation and is responsible for the integrity of the experiments to insure experimental timelines are maintained. The incumbent will perform genetic and metabolic analyses in mosquito lines carrying CRISPR-Cas9 gene drives. The incumbent assists the lead Specialist in laboratory experiments and the Laboratory Manager in maintaining colonies and documenting work done in the insectary. The incumbent also assists in the rearing and microinjection experiments of the above listed mosquitoes in the insectary. Collaborates with laboratory assistants assigned to the insectary. Is responsible for the integrity of experiments to ensure experimental timelines are maintained. Assists the Laboratory Manager in maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the laboratory and insectary as well as participates in laboratory meetings and discussion. The SRA I maintains good working relationships with internal staff and departments. Works with University Laboratory Animal Research (ULAR), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and administrators and staff of the Deans? offices of the School of Medicine and the Ayala School of Biological Sciences, and similar personnel in Departments of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics and Molecular Biology & Biochemistry.
