The Research Technologist conducts experimental research lab work, and/or assists in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s). May complete mathematical calculations, and/or computer tasks and/or assist in judging validity of data. Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices. Trains and assist the facility users, Installs, maintains and troubleshoots research equipment.
Note: This is a 1-year term appointment.
Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.
Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities:
Records test results and may maintain databases.
Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
Maintains inventory of reagents and lab supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
BS in a basic science and no experience or 2 years practical lab/bench experience is required.
Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions as required by research protocols.
Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets and basic computations.
Attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
BS or MS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics or related field.
Experience working in a research laboratory in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology or related field.
Teaching and/or mentoring experience.
Experience working in a core or shared facility.
Experience in installing, troubleshooting and maintaining research equipment and computers.
Demonstrated skills with one or more of the following techniques: UV-Vis/NIR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, HPLC, SPR, RT-PCR, CD spectroscopy, Light Scattering, Size Exclusion Chromatography.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Experience working in a chemistry, biochemistry or molecular biology laboratory.
Tutoring or teaching experience.
Experience with one or more of the following techniques: SEC/GPC, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Binding Titrations, Calorimetry, Light Scattering.
Experience in operation and maintenance of advanced research instrumentation.
