Department: GENOME CENTER CORES - 011018 Department Description: The UC Davis Genome Center coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars. The population of the Genome Center and Cores averages approximately 200 faculty, staff, students, professional researchers, visiting faculty, and postdoctoral scholars. The Center is housed in the Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility (GBSF), a 232,000 sq. ft., Garamendi funded research facility. Annual Center funding is approximately $21 million from multiple sources. The Genome Center Service Cores generate ~$6.5 million annually and serve approximately 700 customers both on- and off-campus.
Specifically, the Bioinformatics core provides expertise and infrastructure to carry out complex acquisition, curation and distribution of data sets, as well as, develop and perform computation, analyses and simulations addressing a wide variety of biological questions from genomics and systems biology. The services provided by the core are on a recharge basis to all campus researchers.

Job Summary: Under general direction of the Bioinformatics Core Manager, work within the Bioinformatics Core data analysis team and collaborate with Principal Investigators, Post Docs, and students on complex data analysis problems on high-throughput biological data.
Use application, pipelines, and analysis techniques as well as statistical methods to process and analyze biological data generated from omics scale data.
Participate in Core training events to educate people on- and off- campus in topics relating to bioinformatics. Develop training modules for Core Workshop. Supervise graduate /undergraduate students on well-defined projects.

Minimum Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computational chemistry, biostatistics, or related discipline and 5+ years of professional experience in Bioinformatics.
-Knowledge and experience in bioinformatics methods, applications programming, web development, data structures, relational databases, and operating systems.
- Experience with computer languages commonly used in scientific programming (ex. C/C++, python, R, or similar languages).
- Experience working in a UNIX/LINUX command line environment, specifically for bioinformatics data analyst.
- Knowledge and skills in statistics and quantitative modeling, as well as solid computer programming.
- Project management skills to organize workload and complete complex tasks in a timely manner with attention to detail; and take direction and work efficiently and effectively within a team environment; and meet deadlines.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to work well with people from various organizational disciplines and with people who have varying degrees of technical experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computational chemistry, biostatistics, or related discipline.
