The primary objective of the Manager of Engineering is to lead and manage the staking, planning, and design functions within SLECA to help achieve the mission of the cooperative and to safely provide reliable service to its members.
All employees are required to support SLECA’s Mission, Vision, and Values. The following are essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of SLECA.
Ensures optimal service and reliability of our electric system through the establishment of design standards, policies, procedures and practices that optimize functionality and efficiency in all engineering areas.
Ensures engineering work is complete in accordance with RUS specifications, the National Electric Safety Code, and SLECA standards.
Assists in development of all studies required by RUS (Work Plan, Long Range Plan, Sectionalizing Study, Contingencies Study, Borrowers Environment Report (BER), and others as requested.
Works with leadership and staff in developing and managing the department budgets.
Conducts work order inspections and review of work orders.
Administers annual staff performance reviews, maintains accurate job descriptions for each position, provides an objective evaluation of individual performance with effective written evaluations and ratings.
Provides clear instructions and plans for individuals to improve job performance in areas not meeting requirements. Accurately identifies training needs and recommends sources of training.
Suggests goals and objectives for the long-term development of the employee and benefit of SLECA above and beyond the job expectations.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the organization and our members.
Works closely with the operations department to design and operate SLECA’s electric system.

Education: Requires a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering or equivalent to include adequate experience and knowledge of job requirement with similar or other industry in the areas of organizational skills, budgeting, training supervising and counseling subordinates.
Experience: Requires a minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrated engineering experience in an electric cooperative including distribution design. A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge may be considered.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground system design and reliability, engineering, and maintenance.
Computer proficiency required including Microsoft Office.
Excellent organizational ability to successfully enhance engineering’s effectiveness and drive productivity.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to be a team player to work with other staff members.
