Postdoctoral ResearchAssociates in Synthetic Biology
The Department of Food Science is seeking six (6)post-doctoral research associates to work with the soon to be launched Centerfor Agricultural Synthetic Biology in the laboratories of Dr. Scott C. Lenaghanand Dr. C. Neal Stewart, Jr. at the University of Tennessee.
The projects are currently funded by DARPA, DOE, andARPA-E awards and cover a variety of areas with a primary emphasis on finaldeployment of the synthetic biology elements in plants. However, since theprojects are highly interdisciplinary, prior experience with plant systems isnot required, as yeast and bacterial systems are commonly used to validatecomponents or assemble constructs prior to installation in plants.
Applicants will focus on utilizing synthetic andmolecular biology approaches to solve real-world challenges facing the energy, medical, agricultural, and biotechnology sectors. As the projects arehigh-risk, high-reward, and focused on achieving aggressive milestones, applicants must be capable of thinking 'outside the box' and meeting designateddeadlines.
