The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics is an organization composed of biochemical, clinical, cytogenetic, medical and molecular geneticists, genetic counselors and other health care professionals committed to the practice of medical genetics. ACMG was incorporated in 1991 to give national representation to providers of genetic services and their patients with genetic disorders and to speak for the emerging specialty of medical genetics in organizations and agencies concerned with medical service, certification, and regulatory issues. ACMG provides education, resources, and a voice for the medical genetics profession and its mission is to improve health through genetics and genomics.
Genetics in Medicine (GIM), the peer-reviewed journal of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, aims to enhance the knowledge and practice of medical genetics. GIM publishes monthly original articles relevant to the broad aspects of medical genetics and genomics.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Editorial Coordinator is an integral part of the GIM editorial staff and the ACMG administrative team. This role supports volunteer committees in the development of practice guidelines and resources, as well as policy and position statements. The Editorial Coordinator will work closely with the and Editorial Office Staff and Director of Administration to coordinate the initial stages of the manuscript development process.
Schedules, organizes and reports on status of manuscript proposals.
Ensure appropriate forms and policies are followed in the development process.
Manages conflict of interest process by establishing participation agreements, running reports, and serving as the primary staff liaison for the Conflict of Interest Review Committee.
Supports volunteer committees by scheduling meetings and responding to committee chair questions.
Manages an electronic manuscript tracking system for all manuscripts and publications developed for the journal.
Disseminates correspondence related to Board review of manuscript proposals, draft manuscripts and documents.
Informs authoring committees of manuscripts that are available for review/revision.
Coordinates member comment process with volunteer committee leaders and staff liaisons.
Ensures final manuscripts meet word/table/reference limits of GIM prior to submission for publication.
Technical Capacity: advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Intermediate knowledge of biology, research and data collection
Intermediate knowledge of AMA manual of style and excellent copy-editing skills
Attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and project management skills.
Ability to work independently, accurately, and apply research and publication best practices
Exceptional communication (oral and written) proficiency
Bachelor’s degree required.
Technological experience with using online platforms.
3-5 years of experience, preferably in an association/non-profit environment.
