The Division of Laboratory Medicine, Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Clinical Chemist or Clinical Pathologist for an open rank/open tenure-earning Instructor/Asst/Assoc/Full Professor position. Interested candidates must have a PhD with clinical chemistry fellow training and certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Anyone who is a NIH- sponsored investigator is more desirable or strongly encouraged to apply. Prospective faculty is expected to provide service in Clinical Chemistry at UAB medicine. The potential candidate who has experience in therapeutic drug monitoring by mass spectrometry and toxicology is strongly encouraged to apply. The prospective faculty will have the strong support to develop an independent research program (basic and translational or clinical), and participate in resident and medical student teaching. Salary, rank and tenure-status are commensurate with experience and background.
The Division of Laboratory Medicine engages in clinical service, medical research, and teaching in pathology. It oversees the clinical operations including hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry, immunology, toxicology, and clinical microbiology, as well as stem cell collection and therapeutic apheresis. Approximately 6 million tests are conducted annually for the UAB Health System. A new $6.8 million, automated lab at the Division of Laboratory Medicine has tremendously improved efficiency and quality of the diagnostic tests. The Division also offers outreach services to the UAB Health System Clinics, Baptist Hospitals in Montgomery, Regional Health Centers in Anniston, Gadsden, and Gardendale, as well as to referring physician offices. The Division has 17 full-time and part-time faculty members with MD and/or PhD degrees. It also offers a one-year Fellowship in Hematopathology, Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and Hemostasis Research.
