The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine has an opening for a post-doctoral research associate in the Division of Cancer Biology. The laboratory projects will involve a wide range of collaborative work on high-resolution confocal live cell imaging, analysis of primary tumor specimens, molecular biology, histopathology, in vitro assays, gene expression and next generation sequencing analysis, and in vivo mouse model studies.
Current projects: (1) Role of SERPINB3 in radiation response and recurrence in cervical cancer and other solid tumors; (2) Role of lysosome in radiation-induced death; (3) Mechanisms of cell death induced by ionizing radiation; (4) Molecular mechanisms of tumor immunity in radiation resistant tumors.
This position includes an excellent opportunity for expert training in cell-based and molecular imaging including high resolution confocal microscopy with multicolor fluorescence, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high throughput robotic microscopy as well as in vivo small animal imaging. Applicants will be expected to train to design experiments, analyze and interpret data with a critical eye and in a clinical context, and to compile data into presentations and manuscripts, as well as write and apply for grant funding as a stepping stone to research independence, with training as necessary. Applicants highly motivated to contribute to improvement of clinical care and outcomes of patients with cancer, to engage in paradigm-shifting research, and to become independent investigators are encouraged to apply.
Ph.D. (or equal degree) in molecular biology, immunology or a related field. The applicant should have experience with molecular biology techniques, as well as molecular signaling and genetics. Techniques include: cloning; multiple ELISA techniques; flow cytometry; Western Blot; immunohistochemistry; immunofluorescence; live cell confocal microscopy; murine xenograft and orthotopic tumor models. Expertise in cancer biology and/or host and tumor immunology are considered a strength.
