Essential Functions: Postdoctoral Position in membrane protein biophysics available in the NIH Research Resource for Mass Spectrometry at Washington University in St. Louis, Department of Chemistry (ML Gross, PI). A new postdoctoral position is available for a PhD scientist to develop and apply mass spectrometry in protein biophysics of membrane proteins in a new collaborative program directed by Michael Gross (Chemistry) and Weikai Li (Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics). The scientist will develop and apply methods in protein biophysics to problems in membrane proteins. An example of the research is given in a recent publication: Warfarin traps human vitamin K epoxide reductase in an intermediate state during electron transfer, Guomin Shen, Weidong Cui, Hao Zhang, ..., Michael L Gross, and Weikai Li, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 24, 69-76 (2017). PMC5533293 This position is funded in full by a new NIH grant for a period of 3 years with opportunity for continued funding for additional years. Washington University's School of Medicine, as one of the best in the world, provides ample opportunities for advancing structural proteomics via collaborations. The laboratory is staffed by four permanent scientists, 7 PhD students, and 6 postdoctoral researchers. The centerpiece instruments are a new Bruker MaXis with Leap Robot for automated HDX, two Thermo QE orbitrap hybrid instruments for footprinting, a 12 T Bruker Fourier transform ICR mass spectrometer for native MS, two Bruker MaXis High Performance QToFs, a Thermo Orbitrap, a Thermo LTQ-FT ICR (7 T), a Thermo EMR (native MS), and a Waters Synapt G2. Job Type/Schedule: This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location: This position is in the Department of Chemistry. Required Qualifications: The candidate should have a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biophysics and have experience in mass spectrometry and protein science.
