Senior Scientist, HTS Electrophysiologist
Vertex is seeking an authority in high throughput electrophysiology to join our ion channel drug discovery team at our San Diego research site. You will be primarily responsible for leading our efforts to fully utilize high throughput electrophysiology instrumentation to characterize novel ion channel pharmacology. This requires you to apply your combination of knowledge and skills to build specialized methods and protocols to characterize unique mechanisms of ion channel activity and pharmacological modulation. You will have expertise in ion channel physiology and understand the principles of ion channel measurements, including detailed knowledge of multiple data analysis methodologies and custom algorithms, as well as high throughput electrophysiology instrument design and operation.
Responsible for the optimization and daily utilization of a high throughput electrophysiology platform, applying a comprehensive understanding of instrument design and operation, building robust processes, enabling SOPs and developing relationships with vendors to ensure the platform operates at peak performance
Design and execute drug discovery assays
Lead all high throughput electrophysiology assay efforts
Incorporate dynamic data analysis paradigms to inform data interpretation and collaborate with existing data and informatics platforms
Provide training to other scientists on platform execution and assay design and development
Utilize ion channel expertise to advance all electrophysiology methods and understanding of ion channel pharmacology
Maintain working knowledge of advances in all electrophysiology methodologies and techniques to better inform technology investments
Expertise in ion channel electrophysiology is required, with a preference for experience with compound profiling against ion channel targets
PhD in Physiology, Biophysics or related discipline
Minimum of 5 years’ experience using high throughput electrophysiology platforms
Preference for knowledge in cell culture techniques, assay development, and experience in technical support and customer interaction
Ability to work independently with strong communication, social, and oral presentation/public speaking skills
