FORMA Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking a talented and highly motivated Scientist to join our Early Discovery team in Watertown, MA. We have established a state-of-the-art hit identification platform, leveraging fully automated small molecule screening, DNA-encoded library screening, fragments and in silico approaches. As part of our integrated hit identification team, this position will primarily be responsible for the screening of DNA-encoded libraries to discover small molecule binders, and offers the opportunity to learn and impact all parts of the early discovery process. The ideal candidate will work independently to develop and improve affinity selection techniques used for the identification of ligands from DNA-encoded small molecule libraries, and be passionate about continuously improving all aspects of lead identification. Expertise in biochemistry, protein purification or structural biology would be an excellent foundation for success. As the selections scientist accountable for screening targets of interest, responsibilities will include understanding the target biology, preparation of libraries for screening, development of protein immobilization and selection methods, next generation sequencing, data analysis, and communication of results. As this position will involve working within multi-disciplinary drug discovery and platform development teams, excellent communication skills are required for success.
Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology or related field; or B.Sc./M.Sc. with 5+ years relevant industry experience
Experience with, and applied knowledge of, DNA-encoded small molecule library selection sciences & supporting processes in a drug-discovery setting is a tremendous asset
Experience with molecular biology (ligations, PCR, qPCR) and Next Generation Sequencing is ideal
Knowledge of biophysical techniques (SPR, AS/MS, etc.) advantageous
Protein engineering, expression and purification experience helpful
Must have a commitment to scientific excellence, the ability to design and execute experiments that enable decision making and to troubleshoot and solve technical and logistical problems
Familiarity with analyzing large datasets, and appropriate software packages
Ability to manage the technical needs of projects, and to concisely communicate results and recommendations in a project team setting is a must
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external colleagues and the research leadership is critical
